WHAT IS IT?

The Leadership in Governance Mentoring Programme is a six month mentoring programme, aimed at strengthening leaders in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes in governance roles of community organisations through focused mentoring relationships. The programme is delivered by huddl in partnership with the Mentoring Foundation of New Zealand.

If you are in a committee or board role and looking to increase your effectiveness as a leader this programme could be exactly what you need. The mentoring model has been designed to develop capability, connection and confidence. Each mentee will be matched with a mentor who has strong not-for-profit governance experience and whose skills overlap with their current needs. All mentees and mentors will be supported by the programme coordinator Fiona Reeve from huddl.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • Become more effective in your governance or committee roles, achieved through the development of your governance skills, knowledge and confidence.
  • Receive one-on-one support to help identify your development priorities.
  • Improve your networks and connections and be part of a peer learning network with leaders in local communities.
  • Gain access to a proven mentoring model which helps you get the most out of your mentoring relationships.
  • Receive ongoing support along with your mentor to keep you focused on your development priorities.
  • Personal development of motivated leaders to help create sustainable community organisations and to drive aspirations for future governance opportunities.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Mentees register their interest for the programme, specifying their personal development goals. Mentees are then shortlisted and interviewed to confirm the final selection and numbers.
  • Mentors are sourced from across the community and are matched with mentees based on goals and experience.
  • Mentees and mentors receive training, orientation and six months of support, including setting development goals.
  • The programme will run from June 2025 to December 2025, with 6 x mentoring sessions (1-2 hours in length).
  • Mentees and mentors attend learning and networking meetings to strengthen the connections between all participants.
  • Impact evaluation and outcome reporting are completed at the end of the programme.

WHO SHOULD REGISTER FOR THE PROGRAMME?

  • MENTEES: Anyone currently sitting on a governance board or committee with a community organisation who wants to grow and develop their effectiveness and confidence in their governance role (and capability for potential future roles in our community).
  • MENTORS: Community members with strong not-for-profit governance experience and skills, with a passion for sharing their knowledge to benefit our local community organisations.
